Plymouth Vegans Facebook Group Description
YOUR REQUEST TO JOIN OUR GROUP WILL BE DENIED IF YOU DON'T ANSWER THE 3 QUESTIONS.
If you add someone make sure they know and tell them to answer the questions - please.
Plymouth Vegans is a group for people who are vegan for the animals (aka ethical vegans)
so there may well be animal rights information posted (but no distressing pictures/videos).
The aim of the group is to provide a local mutually supportive social and campaigning networking resource.
People who are already vegan or genuinely transitioning to be vegan can join.
You don't have to live in Plymouth, visitors and those who used to live here are also welcome, as are those involved in promoting issues, campaigns and information etc from further afield.
People who are vegan for other reasons or are vegetarian may find other groups meet their needs better than this one.
Locally that may be
'Plymouth Vegans, Vegetarians and Friends'
or perhaps 'Plymouth Vegan Fitness',
or 'Vegetarians and Vegans in Devon'
or somewhere more local to you - have a look on https://plymouthvegans.weebly.com/contact.html
This group accepts the vegan Society definition of Veganism
"A philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of humans, animals and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals."
So that means - not eating meat, fish, milk, eggs, honey and insects, and their derivatives, not using wool (or any other animal derived hair or fibre), silk, leather or fur; not testing on animals; or using products tested on animals (the Vegan Soc. has a proviso for medication - so it’s up to you). Not using zoos, circuses or other places of animal confinement, not hunting, shooting, fishing, not riding or racing, and not breeding or selling animals.
Not using or abusing or exploiting animals in any way.
This group accepts the Vegan Society stance on Palm Oil - see https://www.vegansociety.com/resources/general-faqs
The purchasing of vegan items from companies whose parent companies also sell animal products or test on animals is left to you to make your own decision.
A link to the groups 'rules, guidance and expectations' is posted in the facebook 'rules' section and goes to our website:

Our events are open to vegans (and Plymouth Vegans Facebook Group) group members who are genuinely transitioning to being vegan) and their friends and family who accompany them and are not vegan, but all food, drink, etc. will be vegan, as the aim of this group is to support and promote Veganism.
Welcome! :)
